Retraining Restricted GMDSS Operator on General GMDSS Operator
The present program is intended for training of GMDSS ship operators.
The program is developed according to the IMO A. 703 (17) [I1] resolution on training of GMDSS ship operators.
As a result of the course training participants should know:
- the substantive provisions, concerning GMDSS organizations and corresponding articles of the SOLAS [I14] convention, radio regulation, guidance on search and rescuing for sea vessels [I7] and the STCW'95 Code[I5]
- requirements to radio equipment, power supplies, the obligatory ship documentation, presence of radio experts onboard a vessel and radiowatchekeeping
- organization of search and rescue operations
- base principles of the organization of communication systems and GMDSS notifications
- procedures of emergency radio communication and communication of general purpose
should be able:
- to use GMDSS equipment and the normative-reference ship documentation for realization of emergency radio communication procedures and communication of general purpose, reception of the information on safety in the sea
- to conduct radio logbook
- to carry out technical inspections of radio equipment
- to calculate payments for services of communication
They should have steady skills in the actions connected with reception and signaling of disaster and distress messages, and also in case of submission of false signals of marine disaster.
The main attention during class-room lessons is devoted to studying and obtaining of practical skills on use of the ship VHF and MF/HF equipment (DSC, narrow-band radioteleprinting and radiotelephony) and the Inmarsat ship terrestrial stations, and as corresponding procedures of an emergency communication, including signaling of disaster and distress messages, exchange on disaster at carrying out of saving operations, receiving and message transfer with categories promptness and safety, and also receiving of the information on safety on the sea in all sea areas.
