Retraining Restricted GMDSS Operator

The present program is intended for training of ship operators GMDSS restricted area. The program made according to recommendation IMO A.703 (17) [I1] 1 on training of GMDSS ship experts.

As a result of completion of training course the participants should know the following:

• the substantive provisions, concerning GMDSS organization;
• requirements to radio equipment, power supplies, the obligatory ship documentation, presence of radio experts onboard a vessel and radio watch keeping;
• the organization of search and rescue operations;
• base principles of the organization of communication systems and notifications (DSC, radiotelephony, Satellite communication systems, emergency radio buoys, radar-tracking respondents, systems of transfer of the information on safety on the sea);
• procedures of emergency radio communication and communication of general purpose.

should be able:

• to use GMDSS equipment and ship documentation on procedures of emergency radio communication and communication of general purpose, reception of the information on safety on the sea;
• to conduct GMDSS radio logbook;
• to carry out technical inspections of radio equipment;
• to calculate payment for services of communication.

should have steady skills in the actions connected with reception and signaling of disaster and distress messages, and also in case of submission of false distress signals.
